European travels for Warrender swimmersIt has been a busy week for Warrender swimmers in Europe, with eight swimmers representing their club or country in three different meets across three countries.
Craig Benson, Ross Woolley and Helen McRoberts travelled to Vienna, Austria with the Scottish National Youth Squad for the Vienna International Meet, 13-15 June. Helen showed a good return to form with an excellent lifetime best and third place in the 400 Free in 4:28.73. Helen also picked up first place in the 800 Free in a seasons best time of 9:16.66. Craig Benson progressed through to the Open B Final in the 100 Breast and the Semi Final of the 50 Breast, with times just outside his best. Craig picked up a trophy for having the highest FINA points swim in his age group (100 Breast). Ross Woolley raced hard across the three days, gaining a second swim in the 400 IM where he finished fourth.
Billy Purnell travelled to Slovenia with the Scottish National Squad where he had four days of hard racing. Billy had 16 swims across the four day meet, progressing through to a lot of finals. 28.2, 59.6 and 2:05 in the 50, 100 and 200 Backstroke events respectively, whilst in the middle of a hard block of training is a good indicator of some fast racing to come for Billy over the summer meets.
Ewan Johnston, Lewis Smith, Rosie Hood and Sally Wood travelled from their training base in Mataro, into Barcelona to take part in one day of the prestigious Mare Nostrum series in Barcelona. All four raced hard against some very good opposition from Australia and across Europe. Sally Wood‘s 2:23 in the 200IM was good enough to progress her to the B final where she lowered her time to 2:22 to finish 7th. Lewis Smith raced to a 4:29 heat swim in the 400IM, finishing 6th in the final in a time of 4:26. Rosie Hood finished 19th in the 200 Backstroke with a time of 2:23 and swam a 32.5 in the 50m distance. Ewan Johnston contested the 200 Free and finished in a time of 1:57. All four swimmers enjoyed the experience of racing against some quality competition and resumed heavy training in Mataro the next day.
Well done to all eight swimmers.
