Wood Completes Incredible Comeback

Olympic Trials - Day 6 Finals & Heats, Day 7 Finals

Rosie Hood was the only Warrender swimmer in finals action on Day 6 of the Olympic Trials in Sheffield.  Rosie swam to 7th place in the 'B' final of the Women's 200m Backstroke with a time of 2:21.83, almost three seconds down on her heat time.

In the heats that followed, Sally Wood continued her miraculous comeback from injury, establishing an excellent lifetime best of 4:58.71 in the Women's 400m I.M.  It was the first ever time Sally had gone under the 5 minute barrier for the event, which tends to signal arrival at the elite end of the sport.  Just three months ago, Sally was still struggling to overcome a stress fracture of the back and her determination to succeed here at the Trials has been outstanding.

In the Men's 200m Butterfly, Ewan Johnston swam a brave race from the front going out very fast in 58.60 over the first half, and whilst struggling on the second half he hung on for a PB of 2:06.55.  Billy Purnell was outside his best in 2:09.26, while Lewis Smith was unfortuantely disqualified for an illegal touch despite posting a good time of 2:01.46.

In the only final on the last day that featured Warrender swimmers, Sally Wood placed 5th in the Women's 400m I.M. 'B' final with 5:01.15.
