Smith makes second final at Olympic Trials

Olympic Trials - Day 2 Finals & Heats

In the first session of finals at the 2008 GB Olympic Trials, Warrender's Lewis Smith swam 3:57.60 to place 7th in the Men's 400m Freestyle final.  The swim was two seconds down on his time from the heats last night in a morning session where most swimmers did likewise.  Billy Purnell contested the 'B' Final of the Men's 100m Backstroke and placed 8th in 58.97, also slightly slower than his performance from the heats.

The swimmers returned to the pool in the evening for the next session of heats.  In the Men's 200m IM, Lewis Smith reached his second final of the meet with a time of 2:04.57 to qualify in 7th position.  Ewan Johnston and Ross Woolley both demonstrated excellent progress with lifetime best time drops of two seconds each to record 2:07.93 and 2:12.90 respectively.  However, Billy Purnell was disappointed with a time of 2:09.19, well outside his best from last summer.

In the Women's 100m Backstroke, Jennifer Dobson and Rosie Hood both put in excellent performances.  Lifetime bests of 1:07.63 and 1:05.26 respectively were rewards for their recent hard work in training.  Jennifer's time was a 14 year old Scottish Age Group record, while Rosie swam inside the consideration time for the Commonwealth Youth Games later this year.
