Lloyds TSB Scotland and Warrender begin unique sponsorship dealOne of Britain's most successful companies Lloyds TSB has teamed up with Warrender in a unique sponsorship deal. In 2007, Lloyds TSB was the first commercial partner to be announced as one of the primary sponsors of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. One of the legacy effects of that is establishing links with grass roots sport. Their Scotland division (Lloyds TSB Scotland) have chosen Warrender as the first point of investment in this exciting new development.
The partnership is being launched this week to coincide with the annual Warrender Age Group Meet in Dunfermline this weekend, and the British Olympic Swimming Trials in Sheffield next week, to which Warrender is sending a record 12 swimmers. Lloyds TSB Scotland are supporting both these events for the club to mark the beginning of what promises to be just the start of significant further support in the coming years leading up to London 2012.
Warrender will receive both financial and business support from Lloyds TSB Scotland which will be designed to assist the Club’s coaches focus on helping develop the talent of over 250 of Scotland’s young swimmers, several of whom already compete for Great Britain and Scotland.
Lisa Stephenson, Lloyds TSB Scotland’s Marketing Director, said: "Encouraging young people to get involved in sports within their local community helps promote a healthy lifestyle. Warrender Baths Club has historically been the starting point for many of Scotland’s top swimmers including David Wilkie, who was an Olympic Gold Medallist in 1976 and remains the only Scottish swimmer ever to win an Olympic title. There are currently many talented swimmers within Warrender and we’re delighted to be able to help them develop their skills, wherever their swimming journey takes them. We are, in addition, providing some business support which will help support the club management build a strategic plan for the development of the club in the future."
Bill Brash, Club President, said: "We are delighted that Lloyds TSB Scotland is supporting our Club. Our aim is to ensure that every swimmer who joins Warrender reaches their potential; whether that be as an Olympic athlete, or a child that tries their best and enjoys a healthy lifestyle. Over the past five years we have grown rapidly, both in size and strength and we are now firmly established as the leading swimming club in Scotland. The Club is a self-funded small business run by a team of professional coaches and a group of parent helpers. The financial and business resources that Lloyds TSB Scotland can provide will be of great benefit to all our members and enable us to more readily reach our goals and targets."
Head Coach Ian Wright added: “This partnership with Lloyds TSB Scotland is fantastic news for the club and comes at just the right time. This weekend we are hosting the annual Warrender Junior Age Group Meet in Dunfermline at which over 300 children from throughout Scotland (aged 9-12) will take part. Next week we have 12 of our leading swimmers taking part in the British Championships in Sheffield, a number higher than any other Scottish club. Lloyds TSB Scotland is giving its support to both these important events and we look forward to developing the relationship towards other events in the future, in particular in the run up to London 2012 Games."
