Lewis Smith continued his excellent form at the European Short Course Championships in Debrecen, Hungary this morning by setting a new Scottish Senior Record in the heats of the Men's 400m Individual Medley event.  Lining up in the final heat against the Italian World Championship medalists Luca Marin and Alessio Boggiato, Smith battled all the way to come home in 4:10.88, just a fraction behind the Italian duo, but one second inside the Scottish record previously held by Euan Dale at 4:11.98.  The record swim also qualified Smith in sixth place for tonight's final where he will meet the two Italians again, along with hot favourite Laszlo Cseh from the home nation, who last night broke the world record for the 200 Individual Medley and will attempt the 400 record in the race later today after cruising through the heats.
