Smith makes strong start at Europeans13 Dec 2007
Lewis Smith made a good start to his debut appearance at a European Short Course Championship with two lifetime best swims on the opening day. Lining up first in the men's 200 I.M., Smith raced to 20th place in the strong field in a time of 2:01.17, just under half a second faster than his career best.
An hour later, Smith was back up on the blocks for the 400m freestyle. He excuted his race plan to perfection, swimming an extremely well paced race to come home in 3:47.86, a massive three second personal best, and good enough for 16th place overall.
Smith now looks forward to the 400 I.M. tomorrow and the 200 butterfly on Saturday.
