Warrender swimmers reach finals at British University ChampionshipsWarrender swimmers Fiona Booth, Ewan Johnston, Ross Johnston and Craig Purnell were all in excellent form representing their respective educational institutions at the British University Short Course Championships in Sheffield last weekend.
Fiona, a thrid year student at Napier University, swam very close to her lifetime best when claiming the silver medal in the Women's 50m Butterfly in 28.09. She backed this up with further quality swims in the 50 (26.60) and 100 (57.65) Freestyle events, placing 6th and 5th respectively. Fiona's Napier colleague Craig Purnell reaped the rewards of some recent hard training as he cashed in on some PBs at his first ever BUSA Championships. Craig raced to 53.73 and 26.43 in the 100 Freestyle and 50 Butterfly respectively.
First year Edinburgh University maths and economics under-graduate Ewan Johnston continued his progress up the British rankings when making three finals at his first BUSA Championships. Ewan's best result came in the Men's 400 Freestyle when slicing 10 seconds off his previous best time to place 4th in 3:55.72. To this he would add a 6th place finish in the 200 Butterfly (2:05.77) and 8th place in the 200 Freestyle (1:52.07).
Ewan's older brother Ross, now in his third year at the Univeristy of Edinburgh was also pleased to progress to the finals as he recorded a time of 2:11.93 to place 9th in the 200 I.M. Ross also added a 100m breaststroke career best of 1:06.66 and swam 30.52 in the 50m sprint breaststroke event.
Ewan and Ross helped Edinburgh to a 7th place finish at the prestigious event, whilst Fiona and Craig's results helped Napier secure 20th place in the overall team rankings.
