Three Warrender swimmers through to Men's Backstroke Semi-Finals

Warrender's women's 4 x 100 freestyle relay finished fourth on a quiet morning of action at Day 5 of the British Championships in Manchester.  Fiona Booth led off the quartet with an excellent two second best time of 58.79, and was followed by Helen McRoberts (1:00.85), Rosie Hood (1:03.12) and Katelyn Stewart (1:00.39) as the team came home in 4:03.15.

In other events, Ewan Johnston recorded a new personal best of 2:08.03 for 7th place in the junior final of the men's 200 butterfly, while Andrew Haslett finished 8th in the equivalent race of the 200 breaststroke (2:30.05).

During the afternoon heats, Warrender impressively qualified three swimmers for tomorrow's semi-finals of the men's 200 backstroke.  Lewis Smith recorded a lifetime best of 2:04.77, youngster Andrew Haslett did likewise in 2:08.22, while Billy Purnell was outside his best but still just got through in 2:08.28.

The women's 50 freestyle also saw three Warrender swimmers in action.  Commonwealth Games representative led the way with an impressive looking personal best of 27.06 to rank 8th overall going into the semi-finals.  Katelyn Stewart was a fraction outside her lifetime best but made it through to the junior final in 27.84, while thirteen year old Junior National squad swimmer Fiona Gibson handled the pressure of her first ever swim at a British Championships superbly as she recorded a personal best time of 29.47 in one of the early heats.

The racing in Manchester continues Saturday and concludes on Sunday morning.
