Benson Bags Gold in Peru
19 Aug 2011

17 year old Craig Benson has claimed a sensational win at the FINA World Junior Championships in Peru! The Warrender Performance Squad swimmer qualified in 4th place for the final of the 100m Breaststroke, but left the field trailing in his wake as he touched home in a new Championship Record time of 1:01.34. The time was nearly a full second faster than his previous best time and smashed his own 17 year old British Record, which he set at the European Junior Championships in July.

Benson said of his win, ''I just cannot believe it, it's so surreal. I was hoping to get close to the time that I set at the European Junior's in July, but when I turned at 50m and saw I was in front I just went for it. I never thought I would swim that fast, I am so happy''.

Benson has the 200m Breaststroke on the 19th August and the 50m Breaststroke on the 20th August, where he will aim to back up his amazing win with some more great swims. You can view all the results here: www.lima2011.info
