Club saddened by news of the death of Bill Law, Hon PresidentThe Club regrets to announce the death of its Honorary President Bill Law on 19th December 2009. Bill was appointed Honorary President in 1998 and was a great supporter of the Club attending many of its events and social occasions.
Bill joined Warrender on its re-opening after the war in 1946 becoming a member of the Junior Swim Squad. After 3 years swimming with WBC, he developed an interest in diving and joined the East of Scotland Training Squad based at Rosyth. By 1951 he was ready to participate in his first National Competition - the 1m Springboard Championships - and was placed second. Having added the 10m platform to his springboard diving, Bill was selected for the Scottish team at the 1958 British Empire Commonwealth Games in Cardiff were he finished in 6th place.
Following retirement from competitive diving, Bill turned his attentions to coaching and was a founding member of the Edinburgh Diving Club in 1971. In 2008 Bill was awarded the Silver Pin by the Ligue Europeene de Natacion (European Aquatics) in recognition of his contribution to diving and aquatics. He acted as either a judge, referee, coach or team manager at numerous major diving events covering European Championships, Commonwealth Games and Olympic Games. Bill was a member of the Commonwealth Games Council for Scotland from 1966 - 1990 and was appointed as a Life Member of SASA in 1988.
As a Life Member of Warrender and Honorary President, Bill was a great supporter of the Club and maintained a keen interest in its ongoing success. He was a former member of the Warrender Quartet that provides the entertainment at the annual Gents' Dinner and was a five times winner of the "MacDonald Mug" for the WBC Golf Outing. His knowledge and experience of the sport and club administration have been greatly appreciated by the Club's Executive.
