Carnegie Winter Open Meet 2009Well done to all the swimmers who competed for the Club at the weekend Winter Meet. Flying solo as the only Warrender coach wasn’t hard as the coaches from the other squads had their swimmers well prepared for the meet. Needless to say the meet was full of fast times and great races. A fantastic atmosphere was the main recipe for our kids really getting up for producing best times, making finals and winning medals. We were challenged by Carnegie who also had great swims and a bigger team to leave us to the runner up position. This was once again a meet where we are seeing better support from the team, getting behind each other and cheering for every swim.
Well done to our 10/11 year old boys and girls with top 6 performances from Fraser Meadows, Cameron Macleod, Thomas Harrison, and on the girls side Elizabeth Lim, Megan Lawrie, Jane Angus and best times from Jill Mulligan and Bethany Harrison. In the 12/13 years age group Alexandra Adams, Eilidh Levein, earning top 6 finishes, Corin Roxburgh, Kate Laverick, Claire Andrew, Iona Paterson, Megan Briggs, Rhiannon Mackay, Anna McNairney performing best times and great races. In 14/15 yrs age group great swims from Shona Lambert proving you can perform well no matter how you feel and sporting an injury from hockey. Great swims from Alice Bumstead, Charlotte Mackenzie, Catriona Murray, and Leanne Riddoch. Yasmin Khera still produced good times and medals while under hard cycle training with the Performance Squad. Lucy Mackenzie and Jack Caster produced personal bests from the meet to finish off on the 16/ and over’s.
The meet was eventful with a certain swimmer forgetting to count 8 lengths twice, another being locked in his mum’s car resulting in him just making his race and another having an incident with an OAP.
All in all was a great weekend for swimmers and Scotland, beating Australia which I think our Head Coach won’t be best pleased with that result.
Special congratulations to Junior National swimmers Daniel Lim and Jack Caster for winning top male award for gaining highest points over a number of events in their age group.
Kyle Goodfellow ~ Lead Coach, Junior National Squad
