Warrender Girls Success at Scottish Open Water ChampionshipsFour Warrender Girls had a successful day out at the Scottish Open Water Championships in Lochore yesterday.
Jennifer Davis and Marnie Stewart finished 1st and 2nd in the first race of the day, the 5km. In cold and windy condition, Davis and Stewart very quickly made their way to the front of the pack and stayed there for all five laps of the 1km circuit. Finishing 1st and 2nd in the Open Category also meant that they finished in the same place in the 17-24 Age Category.
Davis returned to the water three hours later to join team mate Helen McRoberts in her Open Water debut. Although a little unsure at the start, McRoberts very quickly made her way to the front, storming ahead of the 20 strong field of females. Inexperience showed though as McRoberts struggled to swim the straightest course, with Davis overtaking her in the closing stages to take her second win for the day. McRoberts finished 2nd, with the results taking the Open and Age medals.
Youngster Rhiannon Mackay swam the 1km race for novices and 12/unders and was the surprise of the day. Mackay set of aggressively and never looked back, beating the field of boys and finishing her first Open Water race in impressive style.
The four girls then joined forces to take part in the relay. Needless to say the girls blitzed the field in the 4 x 500 circuit, finishing of a very successful day for Warrender.
Look out for Stewart, Davis and McRoberts next weekend as they contest the British Open Water Championships in Rotherham.
