Hamilton Finishes 5th in First Open Water Swim.
3 Jun 2009

Craig Hamilton today returns to Edinburgh after successfully completing his first Open Water race in the LEN Open Water Cup in Eilat, Israel.

The men’s race saw British Gas team member Richard Charlesworth swim to victory as he claimed the number one spot ahead of Brian Ryckeman (Belgium), who finished in seventh place at the Beijing Olympic in the same event, and Michael Dmitriev (Israel).

Daniel Fogg took a good fourth place and Hamilton finished fifth in 1 hour and 57 minutes. The Women's race was also won by a GB swimmer, with Olympic Silver medallist, Kerri-Ann Payne taking Gold.
The team for the World Championships and European Junior Championships will be announced in the coming weeks based on the results of this meet.

With further GB selections now likely to come Hamilton's way after his performance in Israel, it looks like it is going to be a very busy summer for the 17 year old.
