Warrender Annual Junior Open Meet 200930 Mar 2009
106 of the Club's youngest swimmers turned out in fine form on the weekend to take part in our own Warrender Annual Junior Open Meet. The poolside was a sea of red as the 8, 9 and 10 year old's competed on Saturday and the 11 and 12 year old's on Sunday. There were some fantastic performances over the course of the weekend, culminating in us winning the the Top Club at the conclusion of the meet.
Highlights from the weekend include an excellent showing from newcomer Callum Pender, who took Gold in the 9 Years 50 Backstroke and Silver in the 100 Individual Medley, 50 Butterfly and 50 Freestyle events. All swims were excellent pb's for Pender. His team mate George Clough put in some good performances with Clough taking 2nd place in the 50 Breaststroke, 4th place in the 200 Freestyle and 6th place in the 100 Individual Medley. D+ swimmer, Claire Hilton swam an excellent pb to take bronze in the 10 Years 200 Freestyle and the 50 Freestyle and 4th in the 100 Individual Medley. 10 year old Cameron Macleod also had a good day, finishing 3rd in the 200 Freestyle, 100 Individual Medley, 50 Butterfly and 50 Freestyle events and 6th in the 50 Backstroke. Other swimmers who had top 6 finishes on Saturday include: Elizabeth Lim, 6th place in the 10 years 50 Butterfly, Edie Turner, 5th in the 10 years 50 Breaststroke, Ailsa Timmoney, 4th place in the 10 years 50 Freestyle, Nathan Dakin, 4th place in the 10 Years 50 Backstroke and 6th place in the 50 Butterfly.
In events on Sunday, stand out performances came from David Colley who took Top Boy honours in the 12 Year Old Boys category. Colley swam pb's in all events, taking gold in the 200 Freestyle, 100 Individual Medley and 50 Breaststroke, bronze in the 50 Butterfly and 50 Freestyle and 4th place in the 50 Backstroke. It was a very strong showing from the Warrender 12 year old boys, with Iain Rose finishing in 2nd place in the 50 Breaststroke and 5th place in the 200 Freestyle with team mate David Mulligan taking 3rd in the 200 Freestyle and 50 Backstroke, and 4th in the 50 Freestyle and 100 Individual Medley. Josh Fried won the 50 Backstroke in an excellent time of 34.81 and also picked up 6th in the 200 Freestyle and 50 Freestyle. Megan Briggs put in a very solid swim to take silver in the 12 years 200 Freestyle, whilst Alistair Crichton picked up a bronze medal in the 11 years 50 Breaststroke. Other swimmers finishing in the top 6 include: Alexandra Adams, 6th place in the 12 years 200 Freestyle, Daniel McGregor, 4th place in the 12 years 200 Freestyle, 4th in the 50 Butterfly, 5th in the 50 Breaststroke and 50 Freestyle, and 6th in the 100 Individual Medley and 50 Backstroke, Kate Laverick, 6th place in the 12 years 50 Breaststroke, Murray Blair, 4th place in the 12 years 50 Breaststroke, Fraser Meadows, 5th place in the 11 years 50 Butterfly, Simon Theilen, 6th place in the 12 years 100 Individual Medley, Lucy Gray, 4th place in the 11 years 50 Breaststroke, Iona Paterson, 5th place in the 11 years 50 Breaststroke and 6th place in the 50 Butterfly and Kirsty Niblock, 4th in the 12 years 50 Butterfly.
It was a fantastic team performances, with all swimmers finishing in the Top 6 contributing to the Top Club scores. Sincere thanks must go to President and Meet Manager, Derek Small, who did a fantastic job of making sure the Meet was run smoothly and efficiently, and his army of volunteers who helped to organise absolutely everything in the lead up and on the day.
