Day 4 Hamilton makes First Senior Final21 Mar 2009
Day 4
It was a busy morning of heats for the Warrender team with Yasmin Khera swimming the 100 Freestyle first up (1:00.00). Sean Fraser was just outside his British Record in the heats of the 100 Backstroke (1:09.95) and took gold in the final with a time of 1:10.24. In the heats of the 200 Breaststroke Craig Benson and Dan Wallace set lifetime best times of 2:25.58 and 2:26.38 respectively. Murray Lawrence (2:33.06) and Kyle Goodfellow (2:23.47) also contested the event, Goodfellow narrowly missing out on a semi final swim. In the 200 Backstroke, Rosie Hood put in a solid effort finishing in 18th spot with a time of 2:20.03 whilst Jennifer Dobson was in 39th with a time of 2:26.89.
Now swimming in Stirling at the ITC but still representing his home club, Ewan Johnston swam the 100 Butterfly in a time of 55.97 finishing 19th. Sean Fraser and James Clegg finished with the exact same time in the heats of the 50 Freestyle (29.36) with Fraser progressing through to the final where he swam slightly slower (29.37) to finish 8th. Clegg, a newcomer at Warrender, also took part in the 100 Backstroke (1:22.70).
In the final event of the morning, Craig Hamilton took to the pool in the heats of the 1500 Freestyle. Hamilton swam a new lifetime best of 15:52.38 to book his place in the final. It is 17 year old Hamilton's first senior British Final and the first time he has swum a heat and final in the 1500 (usually it is heat declared). Hamilton and three other boys in his age category will be fighting for two places available on the European Junior team (for this event) in the final on Friday night.
