Warrender swimmers perform on Day 1 at British Champs

Craig Hamilton got the Warrender team of to a flying start on day 1 of the British Championships in Sheffield as he booked his place on the GB European Juniors Team swimming a lifetime best of 3:56.51, Hamilton finished 4th out of the boys eligible to make the team, which was enough to secure his place on the team which will compete in the European Junior Championship in June.  it is Hamilton's first GB selection, and he finished a very respectable 12th place overall.

Team mate Lewis Smith also had a very strong heat swim, swimming a lifetime best of 3:52.28, which put him in first place going into the final. The final was a very exciting race with David Davies breaking the British record to claim gold, with Smith overhauling Robbie Renwick, Richard Charlesworth and Chris Alderton on the final length to secure silver in a time of 3:50.25.  Smith is vying for a place in his first GB World Championship Team but will have to wait to see if anyone beats his time at the Scottish Nationals in June which double up as part 2 of the British Trials.

Other swims on Day 1 included lifetiome best swims by Craig McNally (59.40) and Callum Sjhaw (59.47) in the Mens 100 Backstroke, while Sally Wood and Jennifer Dobson (2:25.73) took part in the Women's 200 IM.  Wood qualifies for the semi-finals in 12th place (2:20.76), finishing 15th overall (2.21.81).  Sean Fraser swam the heats of the MD 100 Butterfly on 1:08.90 and then bettered this in the final (1:08.21) to claim bronze.  Andrew Haslett and Rosie Hood also took part in the 100 Backstroke, swimming season best times of 59.51 and 1:06.91 respectively.
