Johnston hits form in Florida
20 Jul 2008

Warrender's Ross Johnston put together a set of outstanding swims at the Speedo Champions Series (Southern Zone) in Fort Lauderdale, Florida this weekend.  Competing for the Fort Lauderdale Aquatics club, Ross swam an outstanding personal best time in the Men's 100m Breaststroke of 1:05.58 for 4th place (split 30.37).  He backed this up with 2:09.97 for 6th place in the 200 IM and a strong performance of 2:28.45 for 10th in the 200 Breaststroke.  These performances have secured Ross the necessary Scottish Senior Bronze squad qualifying times for next season.

Colleague Kyle Goodfellow was also at the meet and raced to his best ever performance in the 100 Breaststroke, placing 8th in 1:06.80 and then securing a hard fought 6th in the 200m distance with 2:23.07.

Ross and Kyle are part of four Warrender senior swimmers (the others being Craig Purnell and Malcolm Kerr) who are spending summer in Florida as 'camp counsellors' at the Fort Lauderdale Aquatics or Pine Crest Summer Swim Camps.  As counsellors the swimmers get paid to look after and coach children each day, but also get to train with the home team each morning and night.  The quartet will return to Edinburgh in August after completing a two month stay in Florida.
