Masters is the section of Warrender Baths Club where adult swimmers can come to enjoy regular structured swimming sessions and we have more than 40 members. There are those wanting to get fit and improve their strokes, those who want to swim competitively and people who simply enjoy the social side.

We welcome swimmers of all ages and are mindful of all motivations. Improving health, fitness, building friendships and kindling a competitive spirit are just some of the aspects that we enjoy.

Whilst it’s certainly not compulsory, and the majority of us swim for general fitness, we have an enthusiastic group of competitors at Warrender. Using most of our coach Bruce Halloran’s expertise and all of his patience, we have swimmers who compete both nationally and internationally at British, European and World Masters Championships.

We train at various pools across Edinburgh, both short course (25m/25yds) and long course (50m). Swimmers are organised into different lanes by ability (or sometimes energy levels) rather than age or gender. Over the course of a typical hour-long session, Bruce will give us sets which range from around 2,200yds for the more relaxed swimmers and over 3,000yds for the competitive ones.

If you would like to swim with us you will need to have a reasonable level of fitness and be able to swim all strokes, although butterfly is not compulsory. There is no minimum attendance and you are welcome to join us at any of our sessions for a free trial. If you would like to come along, or find out more about our club, please get in touch with Stewart Imrie (Masters Convenor) at stewart.imrie@outlook.com.
